About the Artist

Hamid Johannes Mahmood approaches painting the way a writer approaches a journal with honesty, curiosity, and emotional depth. His work explores both the outer world and the inner landscape, often serving as a way to process grief, express love, and share moments of joy. Each canvas becomes a personal translation of experience, memory, and emotion.
Working primarily with oil sticks, acrylic, and oil paint, Hamid is known for his bold use of color and textured, layered compositions. He gravitates toward unexpected color combinations that create their own sense of harmony, and he often incorporates repeating shapes and patterns. These visual rhythms echo the natural repetitions he observes in daily life and the world around him reminders of the interconnectedness between people, places, and moments.
Raised in a family of artists, Hamid was encouraged to create from a young age. This early exposure nurtured a fearless, intuitive relationship with art that continues to guide his practice today. His travels have also deeply influenced his perspective and palette, infusing his work with the textures and tones of diverse landscapes and cultures.
Hamid’s paintings are not about capturing something exactly as it is, they are about expressing it as he feels it. Through bold color, tactile surfaces, and recurring forms, he invites the viewer into his world, offering a visual experience that is at once deeply personal and universally resonant.
